Google Gemini rumored features trending

Google’s drive for artificial intelligence supremacy continues as more details surface regarding its Project Gemini. The Information says it is the company’s largest AI project that combines conversational text and AI image generation. As a result, it might become more practical than competitors Microsoft Bing and OpenAI ChatGPT.

Some people may view ChatGPT and generative AI as fads, but tech firms know they are far more impactful. It is so significant that search engine juggernaut Google scrambles to enter and lead the AI race. Fortunately, this competition among tech firms will usher in better products and services for everyone.

See what the online search company’s been up to by checking my discussion regarding Google Gemini. Then, I will cover the tech firm’s other artificial intelligence projects.

How does Google Gemini work?

The Information recently shared more details about Project Gemini. Also, I have been covering it since June 2023, so I can elaborate on the AI bot’s inner workings.

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis says Gemini is the firm’s way of competing against ChatGPT creator OpenAI. It is a “next-generation foundation model” that was “created from the ground up to be a multimodal, highly efficient AI tool and API integrations and built to enable future innovations, like memory and planning.”

“While still early, we’re already seeing impressive multimodal capabilities not seen in prior models. Once fine-tuned and rigorously tested for safety, Gemini will be available at various sizes and capabilities,” he added in a Google blog. The project is special as it emulates the human mind closely.

Specifically, it mimics how human short-term and long-term memories work. Let’s compare it to someone trying to shoot a basketball. People learn how to accurately drop it into a hoop with repetition.

Eventually, you realize that previous footwork and stances don’t work, so you adjust until you land more shots. Similarly, Google Gemini records past actions and observations in its long-term memory.

Then, it selects the most optimal instances to guide short-term tasks like writing a poem. However, The Information says this chatbot can do more than generate text.

It will create images, too, letting it provide contextual images. Moreover, Android Authority stated the finished product could “analyze charts, create graphics with text descriptions, and control software with text or voice commands.”

Google is reportedly training it on YouTube video transcripts so that the bot can provide advice based on video content. Also, the company may integrate Google Gemini into existing services like Google Docs and Bard.

Google announced its AI aspirations at its recent I/O conference, such as generative AI features for its search engine. However, the company did not explain how it would apply these functions.

People familiar with Project Gemini speculated it might become the new online search engine. However, the tech giant disproved these claims after releasing an AI-powered version of the platform before sharing more Gemini details.

At the time of writing, the version is only available on Search Labs. Those subscribed to this service will see it puts AI-generated summaries above search results.

The former compiles the most relevant search results using generative AI to provide information immediately. As a result, people can use Google smoother and easier.

The tech firm also applied artificial intelligence upgrades to the Lens app. Consequently, it became an effective personal assistant. You can point it to an interesting landmark to learn more information or view foreign street signs to translate them.

Its most intriguing feature is its ability to identify skin conditions. Point it to an unknown rash or blemish so the app can determine if it’s a symptom of a more severe illness or a mere stain.

Google revealed more features of Project Gemini. Multiple sources say it can generate text and images simultaneously, turning it into an effective digital assistant.

Soon, it could be every employee’s assistant app by analyzing charts and making presentation slides. Everyone else could enjoy it as a powerful upgrade to Google Sheets and existing services.

However, the search engine company hasn’t specified a release date for the chatbot at the time of writing. Learn more about the latest digital tips and trends at Inquirer Tech.
